I'm April Vanderhout. As of May 20, 2012, I am seeking
summer employment in the IT field;
wanting to network and gain skills across
computer systems and web technologies.

At present I have just finished up an eight-month term as a hardware technician,
am CompTIA A+ certified,
and will be in full-time school starting September.

Douglas College: Earned a diploma in
Computing Science and Information Systems-
Web Development Specialty, June 2011

This program introduced me to a variety of skills in the IT world. It paced me through techniques across the Microsoft Office suite, and set a basic foundation for computer programming. Other skills include console commands in Windows and Unix, computer support, SQL commands, and web development.

I've had work experience in a college classroom setting and a corporate office setting. Student skills varied in the classroom. The corporate office challenged me to a stress-free life: I wanted to be at work an hour early to avoid rush hour, read company news and updates in duties, and tidy things up. This meant that I ate healthy, slept well, and didn't get one grey hair through all that term. The one-hour break let me meet other employees, sit down and eat, and exercise.

Douglas College- student assistant.

I assisted computer lab teachers in guiding a class of students through Microsoft Office 2007 products such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and basic html. For the most part, Office skills were outlined in projects in a textbook, which I would work through in advance to the lecture to be knowledgeable about the tasks and challenges that could occur, and I would be able to walk a student back through previous steps. I assisted six time slots of classes each week in 2010 across two campuses(Coquitlam, New Westminster) while being a student myself at BCIT.

Time frame: September 2009 - November 2009,
September 2010- November 2010 Hours worked: 149.94

Sierra Systems Group Inc.: Co-op student- Junior Help Desk IT.

Worked as part of the help desk team for first-level technical support. Duties included configuring, installing, and testing computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment. Used the assyst software solution for ticket management and updates of hardware inventory. Replaced toner for a variety of printers.

Time frame: January 2010 - April 2010 Hours worked: 35 hours/week

I've picked up some Japanese through an obsessive self-study, and have an ear strong enough to catch contextual phrases or words that don't quite translate into English.I can read and write the two syllable alphabets of hiragana and katakana, and read some kanji.

I've used VirtualBox and VMWare to install and use operating systems such as a few flavors of Linux, Solaris, and Windows Server 2008.
I've used irc clients which provided navigational experience to use in MS-DOS.

I took a four-month course in object-oriented php5. Through course study, I used php libraries to hash files, integrate MySQL, and do CLI programming and web scripting. I also explored GUI programming for a Windows environment using WinBinder, which offers an interface similar to Microsoft's Visual Basic.

I love hitting the salsa dance floor, which I do on occasion around Vancouver.
I have an apptitude for singing along in a soft, off-key voice to a few songs I like, and dancing in the mirror.

I make a few food goodies from scratch.
I blend fruit/whey protein powder together into smoothies, or dry a layer of smoothie down to make a fruit wrap. I bake peanut butter chocolate cookies and pizza, fry up a mixture of potato and egg, and stir up chocolate pudding.
Blending a couple oranges, vanilla whey powder, and water together after a jog is utterly refreshing.

I also have 2 websites- anne.sakana-tama.com and sakana-tama.com/inu3.
